“Kiss of Life”, 1968 Pulitzer Prize

A utility worker, J.D. Thompson, is suspended on a utility pole and giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a fellow lineman, Randall G. Champion, who was unconscious and hanging upside down after contacting a high voltage line.

Champion survived and lived until 2002, when he died of heart failure at the age of 64. Thompson is still living.

That the chances of Real Madrid making it out of this game are almost slim to none, I have this hope that many a miracle will happen and they will limp out of there and into the finals. I’d rather see a Real Madrid v. Bayern Munich final than see Dortmund in any sort of final.

The U.S. framing this poor kid is almost as bad as when we trained Osama Bin Laden and gave him weapons. If you’re going to frame someone, at least make sure you don’t have a hundred holes in your accusation. I just hope they do not kill this guy. At 19, he still has an opportunity to accomplish something.

Considering the fact that I am close to Boston, I think I should post about it. Especially because I’ve been talking about it since 3 this afternoon.

I honestly think I would be more content with it if the human insect or group of insecure sociopaths who did this bombed some state or federal building or even some place of worship. That way I could say that this was just another nutjob who had some problem with the government or was a racist asshole and try to get whoever did this’ reasoning. However, there was nothing political, religious, or cultural about the marathon. These were just people who were enjoying Patriot day in Boston and possibly getting something off their bucket list by finishing this marathon. Instead, this day will forever be marred by the bombs that went off, the blood, and the victims covered in blood with missing legs, ankles, or feet.

It’s also been confirmed that one of the dead is an 8 year old kid, who probably was there with his parents and siblings, enjoying the marathon and nice weather, especially in an area of the country that’s been ravaged by storms for months.

But what’s particularly sickening about this is that the person or people who did this, is probably sitting back and laughing and happy because they succeeded and caused panic. Not only in Boston but all over the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut down New York soon. They got Obama talking about it, Barbara Walters, and I think every news station around the world and they get to sit there and just soak in the “glory” they created in their sick little mind or minds.

I think that this should be a time to keep quiet about this tragedy. I already see conspiracy theorists hovering over it like crows. It’s fine if you want to talk about it, I’ve been talking about it, but at least have some respect for the victims.

The NYC Anti-Teen Pregnancy Campaign

So I’m 99.999% sure that everyone has seen these ads somewhere on the internet or even the news. There’s been somewhat of a backlash, but the majority of the backlash is from teen moms. To me that’s kind of like an alcoholic reacting to a campaign against alcoholics. And let’s face the facts, more and more teenage girls are getting pregnant on purpose for whatever reason. And let’s face the facts again and realize that the statistics that these ads are presenting are true. Obviously there are plenty of teen moms who accidentally got pregnant and are breaking their backs to raise their child right, and they are doing a good job; but there are also a lot of teen moms who don’t.

I’m not saying these ads are 100% right, but they aren’t 100% wrong either. It’s just a harsh truth and we live in a society where truth is hard to accept. Could they have made sure not to use mainly minority babies? Yeah. The people who came up with this campaign are marketing psychologists too. Remember those PSAs against texting and driving with the bloody baby and stuff? That campaign is running on the same system. When people feel guilt about something, they are less likely to do it.

Bayern Munich & The Champions League

With all this hype about Bayern winning the treble and all the certainty that they will win the treble, it makes me question, if Bayern, particularly in the Champions League, will be able to being home the trophy. Obviously, the Bundesliga and Pokal are almost certainly Bayern’s (unless some tragedy happens), but I think that the Champions League still remains cloudy and too early to call. And while I do love, support, and wish the best to Bayern, some rational thinking is involved here.

I think the issue is that people forget that there are other teams in the Champions League. Let me list them (not including those eliminated yesterday) in case people forgot.

-Bayern Munich
-Barcelona
-Real Madrid
-Dortmund
-Real Madrid
-PSG
-Valencia
-Celtic
-Juventus
-Arsenal
-AC Milan
-Malaga
-Porto

There are obviously some big dogs left. Some of these big dogs have been dominating left and right. Some of these big dogs also have formations and line-ups that Bayern has had trouble with in their football history. Let’s also remember there are some card-happy and blind referees in the Champions League this season. Obviously, getting a good referee for an important game is out of the hands of the club (unless hand him some big bills before the game; but let’s pretend all is fair!) and sometimes you just get calls that are wrong and ridiculous.

Now I shall speak of the club we shall not name, Dortmund, dun dun dun! (oh crap, we weren’t supposed to name them). Eight consecutive wins in the Champions League. We didn’t exactly ravage them when we played them last week and they play well when they want to. Hopefully someone deals with them before Bayern has to. But let’s say Bayern skip out on Dortmund. There’s still a chance of facing Real Madrid or FC Barcelona (Barca are the 83% favorites to advance over AC Milan). Bayern can reminiscent last season when they beat Real, but that was last year, Real has a different dynamic now, and let’s remember that the game was no piece of cake, Bayern did struggle. If they have to go against Barcelona, do Bayern have what it takes to take them down (Barca has fallen on tough times, so let’s give Bayern the benefit of the doubt here)?

And then there are the yellow cards. They got Bayern last season when Jerome Boateng and David Alaba were benched during the final, which Bayern lost to Chelsea (sorry for bringing up those painful memories) and I believe that if Boateng and Alaba were not benched, Bayern may had actually won. UEFA has also tightened up on yellow card and red card suspensions. There is no more amnesty before big games. Currently, Thomas Muller, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Philipp Lahm are all on a yellow card. Are these players that make a difference in Bayern games? Uh, yeah! Bayern can survive weak clubs without them, but not some of the big dogs. Better be careful there boys!

Now that is a basic break down of the Champions League for Bayern right now. While I wish the best for Bayern, I will be remaining fairly neutral this Champions League, hoping that the teams who deserve to win do.
